I am grateful for the in-depth visit with KOKE FM’s Bob Cole this morning as we examined Governor Abbott’s reopening of Texas. In his announcement yesterday to move the state into Phase II, the Governor expanded the authorized restaurant capacity to fifty percent, while allowing bars, bowling alleys, bingo halls and many other venues to open. He also called for the opening of amateur sporting events, all childcare facilities, summer school, youth sports, and day/overnight camps.
Bob and I discussed the great importance of protecting Texas’ most vulnerable population — children living in troubled home environments who depend upon schools, camps, and youth programs for meals, academic enrichment, and overall wellness and safety. I also emphasized the vital importance of continuing to abide by health and safety protocols, including the wearing of face coverings, so that business patrons and employees have a sense of comfort and confidence to support the reopening of our economy.
