Dennis Higgins Bonnen (born March 3, 1972) is a Texas businessman and politician. As of 2020, Bonnen served as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. A Republican, Bonnen has represented District 25 of the Texas House since 1997. In 2013, then-Speaker Joe Straus appointed Bonnen as Speaker Pro Tempore, presiding over the House in the Speaker’s absence. In January 2019, Bonnen was elected Speaker. In 2019, he announced that he would not seek re-election in 2020.

Speaker Bonnen was born in Angleton, Texas, and is a graduate of Angleton High School and graduated cum laude from St. Edward’s University in Austin with a B.A. in Political Science. In 2001, St. Edward’s honored him with their Alumni Achievement Award and he was inducted into the Angleton ISD Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2013.
